22nd Annual Virginia Biological Farming Conference will be held in-person January 22-24, 2022 at The Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center in Downtown Roanoke, VA.
The Virginia Biological Farming Conference is Virginia’s premier organic and sustainable agricultural conference! The Conference brings together farmers, gardeners, eaters, educators, industry professionals, and advocates of biological, sustainable, regenerative, and organic agriculture.
The three (3) day Conference includes: Pre-Conference intensive workshops on Saturday; 63 concurrent sessions of workshops, presentations, and panel discussions on Sunday and Monday; 50 tradeshow exhibitors; locally sourced farm meals; and book sales with author signings. Other Conference highlights include the Youth Program, the Silent Auction, and a wide array of networking opportunities including regional meetings and fireside chats, morning yoga for farmers, and the Taste of Virginia Expo & Social.
Our keynote speakers are Karen Washington of Rise & Root Farm and Amyrose Foll of The Virginia Free Farm. Karen Washington, a farmer and activist, will be presenting "Soil Health is Food Justice." Amyrose Foll will be presenting "Farming Our Past, The Sacred Science of Traditional Ecological Knowledge."
This years focus tracks include beginning farmer resources, regenerative grazing, building equity in agriculture, microbial agriculture, crop production, the business of farming, crop specific presentations, and a track focused on permaculture, agroforestry and systems. Instructors include Ira Wallace, Ellen Polishuk, Dan Kitteredge, Michael Carter, Jr., Pam Dawling, Brent Willis, Cerruti Hooks, April Jones, and many other brilliant farmers, ranchers, educators, scientists, advocates and activists.
On Sunday, January 23rd from 2pm to 6pm all are welcome to attend (for free!) for the The Taste of Virginia Expo & Market - a celebration of delicious and local Virginia foods, beverages, and handmade goods! Join us in the Crystal Ballroom at the Hotel Roanoke to support local and sustainable agriculture and producers in Virginia. We are pleased to share this free event with the Roanoke Community and beyond to raise awareness and to continue our mission to promote, advocate for and educate about local and sustainable Virginia farms and food businesses.
VABF would like to thank our Harvest Sponsor, the Virginia Cooperative Extension (a partnership of Virginia Tech, the Virginia State University College of Agriculture, and the USDA), and our Sustainer Sponsor, the Catawba Sustainability Center at Virginia Tech. We would also like to thank our additional sponsors and all our of amazing members for helping us to promote biological farming and support the biological farming community.
