Book No Further presents journalist Margaret Edds and community activist Michael "Mickey" Hickman of Pulaski County in conversation about her most recent book, What the Eyes Can't See. Wednesday, March 8rd, at 6:30 pm. Edds and Hickman will be joined by Dwayne Yancey of Cardinal News.

In her book Edds looks at how former Virginia Governor Ralph Northam survived early controversy during his administration and finished his term on a positive note with the overturn of century-old laws supporting racial discrimination. The book provides a revealing examination of race in the nation and how racism might be addressed and reckoned with.

Edds spent more than 30 years covering Virginia politics and government, first as a statehouse reporter and then as an editorial writer for the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot. She also is the author of We Face the Dawn, the story of Roanoke attorney Oliver Hill and Spotswood Robinson and their campaign against various forms of racial segregation in the years leading up to Brown v The Board of Education.

Hickman is a Pulaski native and serves as president of the board of directors for the Calfee Community and Cultural Center in Pulaski. He worked more 40 years as an educator there and 10 years as a national educational consultant.

Yancey is executive editor of Cardinal News has more than four decades of experience in Virginia journalism, including 39 years with The Roanoke Times as a reporter, editor and, for seven years, editorial page editor.
