The Science Museum of Western Virginia is delighted to announce this year's SMWV Harvest Festival!

FREE ADMISSION FOR KIDS!

The Science Museum of Western Virginia Harvest Festival, scheduled for Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, is an intersection of science, innovation, community engagement, and the sustenance of the mind and body.

Our mission is to make science and technology accessible to all people by being an outstanding regional institution that ignites and nurtures life-long learning.

Our commitment to accessibility has inspired a number of initiatives, including our participation in the Museums for All program, which grants free admission to families who receive food assistance. We welcome the participation of community partners whose missions and visions align with the spirit of the event.

We are looking to celebrate the science of the season and the ways in which science serves and nourishes the community and our bodies!
Taking a page from our previous Market at the Museum program, we will be working with community partners to serve up some vegetable science and showcase the ways in which both food and mutual aid and assistance programs help to feed families in our community.
The event will feature local vendors and makers in an artisan market just in time for the holiday season, as well as harvest-based STEAM stations featuring museum educators and scientists from Virginia Tech.
The event will also feature educators from our Living Collections team, who will introduce visitors to the concept of brumation in southwestern Virginia species, including our own Franklin the turtle.
We will have some pumpkin science experiments (which may include the singing pumpkin circuits experiment featured last year on WDBJ7).
