"...his voice and visage beaming out from immense speaker stacks... a lush two-hour extravaganza." - The New Yorker
"Indie-Rock artist Josh Tillman’s “Father John Misty” has been burned onto the peripheries of the 2010's as one of the most forward-thinking, hip-shaking, innovative songwriters of the now. He follows in the path writers such as Loudon Wainwright III and Randy Newman carved before him, but with the angst of a rock star wired up to a lie detector, his brutally honest lyrics are a refreshing change to the musical stratosphere."
Father John Misty returns with Chloë and The Next 20th Century, his fifth album and first new material since the release of God’s Favorite Customer in 2018.
Chloë and the Next 20th Century was written and recorded August through December 2020 and features arrangements by Drew Erickson. The album sees Tillman and producer/multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Wilson resume their longtime collaboration, as well as Dave Cerminara, returning as engineer and mixer. Basic tracks were recorded at Wilson’s Five Star Studios with strings, brass, and woodwinds recorded at United Recordings in a session featuring Dan Higgins and Wayne Bergeron, among others.
ABOUT OMAR VELASCO
Singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Omar Velasco's music draws from a broad range of influences; it pays homage to the greats of the past - like Stevie Wonder, Shuggie Otis, Joni Mitchell and Milton Nascimento - while avoiding the triviality of nostalgia. It allows the richness of music from around the world - across era and genre - to give it depth and diversity, while maintaining clarity and poignancy. It is music that is difficult to classify, yet has a familiarity that is easy to digest. Velasco's productions posses a transcendent quality that transport the listener to distant and beautiful landscapes, while the lyrics anchor the song in simple, heartfelt poetic ground.
Based in Los Angeles, Omar Velasco has toured and collaborated with artists such as Jonathan Wilson, Jim James and My Morning Jacket, Gardens and Villa and many others. As well as touring and releasing music under his own name, Velasco is part of the critically acclaimed band Amo Amo.
