Nicole Yun’s Vinyl Release Party with Special Guests Carlos Truly Solo and Nathan Bajar
Nicole Yun’s Vinyl Release Party with Special Guests Carlos Truly (Solo) and Nathan Bajar!
Nicole Yun, best known as the front-woman of indie rock trio Eternal Summers, saw her scrappy post punk band mature through a decade of touring and recording. A decade – a length of time that is twice or three times the duration of most musical acts today. While she considered going back to school, a new career, or even putting songwriting away for awhile, she ended up heading north from her Appalachian Virginia home to venture on a new musical path. The result was 2019's first solo album, Paper Suit.
For 2023, Nicole announced Matter, an extremely personal album that deals with her experience as a Korean American woman in the last 3 years. Matter explores concepts of race and inclusion, the meaning of capitalism, drawing on personal experiences with discrimination. The songs run the gamut of crisp and structured power pop to guttural, massive confessional anthems with a breeziness that betrays the title.
Carlos Truly - Since helping found Ava Luna in the early 2010s, Brooklyn DIY staple Carlos Hernandez has worked with a wide range of artists—everyone from Frankie Cosmos to Princess Nokia. This varied background shines through in his solo output as Carlos Truly, which plays like timeless radio pop birthed in the arty basement of your city’s coolest underground venue.
Carlos’s new single on Bayonet Records, “MUCH 2 MUCH,” finds him exploring the funkiest side of his sound. Over two-and-a-half spirited minutes, sun-baked guitar riffs rest atop a shuffling drum machine groove peppered with swaggering bass playing. It’s aided by production from his brother – Eartheater and Lil Ugly Mane collaborator Tony Seltzer – whose inventive touch enhances the song’s exuberant energy. The one-off track is accompanied by the announcement of bicoastal United States tour dates.
Nathan Bajar is a Filipino-American multidisciplinary artist from New Jersey. His treasured family stories, traditions, and his own conflicts are embedded in his work as both musician and a photographer. He interweaves genres-- sonically drawing inspiration from Pyschedelic, Pop, Soul, Rock, and RnB.”
