Details

In comedy parlance, crowd work simply means conversing directly with an audience member. It represents a break from the scripted and refined material that comics brings onto the stage, and introduces variables that only the most seasoned performers can confidently navigate. It can become a euphoric moment of connection between audience and performer, but can also destabilize a show to the point of no return.

Some comics are forced into crowd work, as in moments of disruptive audience behavior. Others seek it out; in fact, the popularity of viral crowd work moments on social media has led to comics launching national careers on their notoriety as masters of controlling a room.

Winston Hodges is a prolific performer and writer who has earned his place as a true star in the talent-rich DC comedy scene. Already known as a reliable killer with his inventive written material, Winston developed equal reputation for his handling of off-the-cuff moments, and ability to cut straight to the heart of an audience's quirks.
Winston, a comic in residence for RCF 2024, is taking over Martin's Downtown as our Sunday headliner. His only material will be his interactions with the crowd in attendance, making this one of the festival's most unique experiences. Even if you're a longtime fan and supporter of Winston's comedy, you've never seen this show before, and never will again.

The Martin's bar and kitchen will be open for the duration of the event. Seating is limited for this show, and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Accommodations possible for large families / groups with advance notice, but reservations for specific tables or dining room locations will not be honored.
